Principal's Perspective-August 4, 2017
August 4, 2017
It’s hard to believe that it is time for school to be starting again but as the calendar turns over to August, a new school year is on the horizon. I am excited to welcome students and staff back into the building as we begin what I hope will be another successful school year! The dawn of a new school year is an opportunity for a fresh start for everyone and there isn’t much that compares to the excitement that our young students show as they return to school to see their teachers and friends. Teachers will return on August 14 for three days of in-service. The first day of school for students is Thursday, August 17.
We will have a few staffing changes to the building this year. Gabe Berglund has been working in the building since the end of May as the new head custodian. Gabe hit the ground running as he started at one of the busiest times for a custodian. Seth Feeken is the new business teacher and FBLA advisor. He completed a long-term substitute teaching position last spring in Aurora and has been spending the summer getting to know the students. Dawn Metschke will be teaching science and agriculture classes this year. Dawn brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from her teaching career in Columbus. She is excited to get the FFA program off the ground and has already taken many steps to make this a viable program for students. Amy Miller will be joining the food service department as a cook. She is excited about joining our team! Tia Miller brings several years of experience with her from Auburn for the three year old preschool program. A Johnson-Brock alum, Tia is excited to help our youngest students begin their educational careers. Rounding out the new staff is Holly Mosel. Holly will be teaching science classes primarily at the high school level. She began her teaching career in Omaha and is ready to get to know the students and grow their excitement of science. Be sure to welcome these new faces whenever you have the opportunity!
On August 16, we will host the annual Elementary Open House. This is a great opportunity for students and parents to come to the school, drop off their school supplies, visit classrooms, and talk to teachers. Each elementary grade level will have designated presentation times. Several teachers have already sent out welcome letters that provide more details.
By the time you are reading this, the high school football and volleyball teams will have started their practices. We are expecting several student-athletes to take part on each team this year. Last year, the football team reached the playoffs for the second year in a row and the volleyball team was successful in their quest of defending the state championship from 2015. Their sights are set on a 3-peat this year! Good luck to the players and coaches on what we hope will be successful seasons!
Please continue to check local media news outlets, the school website, Twitter, Facebook, & newsletters to stay up-to-date on the happenings at Johnson-Brock Public Schools. Our goal is to keep the public involved and informed about school information as much as we possibly can. If you have questions throughout the year regarding the school; feel free to contact me.
