1st Grade Instructor
As a Johnson-Brock alum, Eagle Red runs deep in my veins. I feel privileged that I am able to teach in the same school system that provided the foundation of my education. As a teacher at JB, I have spent a quarter of a century working with first graders. Prior to that I taught one year of Title Math and Reading at the elementary and secondary levels, and instructed third grade for one year. My previous teaching experience includes five years as a fifth/sixth grade teacher in the Dawson-Verdon School District. How gratifying it is to know I have had the opportunity to impress on so many young minds a lifelong love for education!
I am a graduate of Peru State College where I received my Bachelor of Education Degree with an endorsement in Special Education. Always wanting to enrich my skills and knowledge, I earned my Master of Education Degree with an Emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. I am truly a life-long learner and value the opportunity to cultivate my skills as an educator each summer and throughout the year through continued studies.
My husband and I live on an acreage outside of Johnson and are the parents of three sons, Joshua, Jacob, and Nicholas, who are all graduates of Johnson Brock. When I’m not teaching I enjoy spending time with my granddaughter and grandson, as well as attending sporting events, reading, working in my yard, and walking.
It is truly a blessing to work with young learners. What satisfaction I receive as I watch the gears turn in their little heads and eventually see that spark of understanding as they learn a new concept! I truly love teaching first grade and value the opportunity I have been given to work in my hometown and teach in the same school system where I garnered my education.
“Teachers have three loves: love of learning, love of learners, and the love of bringing the first two loves together.”- Scott Hayden
